Science
I started out in the University of Gothenburg studying
biology and molecular biology. I took my Bachelor's degree
there and went on to also take my Masters. For both my
Bachelor's and Master's thesis I worked with Jonas Warringer.
I was doing large scale experimental evolution in yeast and
contributing to setting up a methodology for high through-put
colony phenotyping
(scan-o-matic).
From there I went to Gianni Liti's lab in Nice for a 6 month
Erasmus internship. While I was there I applied for the
LabEx Signalife PhD program
at the University of Nice, Sophia Antipolis. I was enrolled and
began my PhD in Gianni's lab at the Institute for Research on Cancer
and Aging, Nice in 2014.
The first part of my PhD focused on variance decomposition and
phenotype predicitions in diploid strains of Saccharomyces
cerevisiae. This resulted in two nice papers published in Nature
Communications. Check them out over at papers.
In my second project, we are analysing a large number of yeast gametes to
find what exactly underlies the phenomenon of inviable gametes, this
project has now moved over to my free time.
From Nice I moved continents and started working in the team of
Christian Landry.
With funding from the HFSP I studied the exciting phenomenon of de
novo gene emergence, working to understand how genes can emerge from
previously non-coding sequences.
With my last year of HFSP funded research, I moved back to Sweden to work
in the team of Jonas Warringer. Here I am continuing some work with de novo
genes, but also investigating the mitochondria, their genetic plasticity and
the role they play in meiosis.
Non-science
I've rather recently become a father which takes up most of my free-time. He's closing in on two years at the time of writing this (2022), and he's truly the best use of free-time that I could ever imagine. Other than that I enjoy (but am not particularly good at) playing the piano, woodworking, and design (mainly houses).
This website
I built this website myself using html and css.
The background image I took while on a ski trip in Funäsdalen, Sweden.
Thumbnails and logos I made using Inkscape with a couple of exceptions:
